Founder and manager of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, William Gates III, said Ethiopia is one of the major beneficiaries of his foundation, which prompt him to open the Foundation’s Country Office three weeks ago in Addis Ababa.
On his first visit to Ethiopia, Gates noted that his foundation support in Ethiopia has been worthwhile, with the health sector, one of the two channels the foundation provides financial support and donations, registered a marked improvement.
Gates, who was here in Ethiopia for the first time on a two-day visit discussed with government officials and stakeholders on the Foundation’s activities regarding the health and agriculture sectors in the country. He said that Ethiopia is the third or fourth major beneficiary of his Foundation during a press conference he gave for local and foreign journalists.
He further said that the health extension program has created a lot of access to health services.
A lot of positive things are happening in Ethiopia, Gates said, adding that the decrease in child mortality rate, the increase in the vaccination coverage and the case of malaria displayed this fact.
Gates said that he will strengthen his foundation’s support to the agricultural and health sectors, while noting that he did not come to announce any new additional package.
