Addis Ababa (ERTA)– Ethiopian Airlines, the fastest growing airline in Africa, received its sixth Boeing 777- 200LR (Long Range) Worldliner on July 2, 2013, the Airlines announced.
The 777-200LR carries more passengers and more revenue cargo farther than any other jetliner and is capable of connecting virtually any two cities in the world nonstop.
“The 777-200LR’s performance and range has allowed us to open direct routes from Washington D.C to Addis Ababa, Addis Ababa to Beijing, Toronto to Addis Ababa, as well as other long range routes. In line with our Vision 2025, we plan to provide more and more non-stop long haul flights to connect east, west, north and south, using the strategic location of our Addis Ababa hub. As we expand to South America and Far East Asia, this additional B777-200LR will let us take full advantage of the performance and economics of this great airplane.”, said CEO of Ethiopian Tewolde Gebremariam said.
Ethiopian Airlines was the first African airline to operate the B777-200LR, the B787-800 Dreamliner and the B777-200 LR Freighter.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates one of the youngest and most modern fleet with an average age of seven years with a mix of B787-800s, B777-200LRs, B737-800s with Sky Interior, and B777-200LR Freighters.
Using these aircraft, Ethiopian is expanding its network and bringing Africa closer to the world with 75 international destinations across five continents, the Airlines said.
