Fourth national, regional elections due tomorrow
The fourth national and regional elections are to take place tomorrow after a campaign punctuated by acrimony and bitter recriminations between contesting parties officially drew to close on Thursday.
The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced that this year the number of voters in each polling station would not exceed one thousand people, a number which was brought down from four thousand in the previous election. According to the Board, the introduction of the change in the electoral process of the nation would be instrumental in avoiding long lines and inconveniences on Election Day.
6:00 am tomorrow morning 43 thousand polling stations all around the country will open their doors to voters. Information obtained from the board indicates that some 31.9 million Ethiopians are registered to take part in the elections. Out of the 79 legally registered political parties, only 63 have fielded 2178 and 4730 candidates for the 547-seat House of Peoples’ Representatives and seats for regional councils, respectively
