Tecno Mobile Ethiopia is set to release its first smartphone completely assembled in Ethiopia. The smartphone will hit the shelves in mid-July and will range between 6000 – 8000 birr.
The new smart phone branded Tecno T3 supports the Google Android 2.3 smart phone operating system. Android is a Linux-based operating system used in mobile devices including smart phones and tablet computers.
Tecno is studying the market to decide on the market price for the new product according to Henry Yu, General Manager of Techno Ethiopia.
Tecno Telecom Ltd a Hong Kong-based mobile manufacturer established in 2006 launched operations in Ethiopia in September of 2011 with a capital investment of more than 1 million US dollars.
The investment launched in Ethiopia is part of the larger plan the company has to increase its presence on the African Market.
“Tecno already has several models on the market, all of which support Amharic, Oromiffa, and Tigrigna languages. The new phone will, for the time being, support only Amharic, according to Henry Yu, Tecno’s general manager in Ethiopia,” wrote Addis Fortune.
The Amharic language application was developed by a domestic company, Information Technology Transfer Services. The Amharic language software, the Amharic Soft Keyboard and Messaging Application will work on all Android operating systems said Ayalew Aseffa, Founder and Chief Executive of ITTS.
