Addis Ababa,  Ethiopia (April 30, 2010)  – Forum’s allegation saying the ruling party intimidates Forum members is intended to spoil the election process, the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and the Oromo People Democratic Organization (OPDO) said.

EPRDF and OPDO said in a joint press conference here on Friday that the accusation of Forum is intended to spoil credibility of the forthcoming election.

They said Forum is attempting to abort the ongoing contribution of political parties to further strengthen common understanding and create peaceful multi-party system in the country as per the election code of conduct governing political parties.

Head of Central Committee of (OPDO) Zelalem Jemaneh on the occasion said Forum has been presenting baseless allegation against the ruling party.

Zelalem said Forum is making use of unfounded allegation for political campaign.

He said besides Forum has killed an OPDO member, Etana Edosa at his home in Dano Woreda. Evidences are gathered and the case is already brought before a court.

He also said eight Forum members entered home of an OPDO member in Elo Gelan Woreda of West Shoa Zone, Oromia State and stabbed his father and sister. The OPDO member escaped because he was not at home at that time. The victims are receiving treatment at Ambo Hospital.

He said Forum complained that its member Bianssa Daba was killed by the ruling party. However, Bianssa, who was a member and supporter of OPDO since 2001 E.C, died of natural causes.

Zelalem said Bianssa’s parents have also confirmed that he died of natural causes.

He said the party also said that its 150 members are imprisoned. OPDO has investigated the case and found out that some of the prisoners are not residents of the woreda indicated by Forum while others are prisoners accused of different crimes. Few were also imprisoned as they were engaged in terrorist acts of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) .

EPRDF office head, Muktar Kedir on his part said concerned bodies have been investigating each of the complaints of the party and revealing the truth to the public.

Muktar said Forum has been attempting to create violence.

The Ethiopian people condemn anti-peace forces engaged in destructing the election process, he said.
