Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – National inflation recorded in April in this Ethiopian fiscal year stands at 2.9 per cent, Central Statistical Authority announced on Tuesday.
In a press statement it sent to ENA, the Authority indicated that the inflation rate recorded in April 2002 EC was less by 41.4 per cent than that of April in 2001EC which was 44.3 per cent.
The authority said the price of food stands at 4.9 per cent below zero point in April 2002 while the price of non-food items during the same period was 17.7 per cent.
The price of food has decreased in April 2002 EC by 62.1 per cent compared to that of last year same period which was 57.2 per cent .
The Authority attributed the decrease to the country’s inflation rate to the reduction of food particularly that of grain according to food price index.
The price of the food in the last 12 months has been showing reduction on average when compared to that of March last year, according to the Authority.
On the contrary, the authority mentioned that the prices of non-food items has continued to increase, according to the price index.
Particularly, the price of fuel, construction materials, clothing and foot wear, housing furniture, house decors and sanitation materials, were among the non-food items, whose price is in the rise, according to the index.
